What is food without a good kick to it, no? I’m so thankful for them Indian taste buds 😉 Today I will share my mother’s recipe for what I think is a quintessential chutney for any household – Green Chutney or the Cilantro-Mint Spicy Chaat Chutney that is the life of most North-Indian street food, particularly chaat.
fresh cilantro or hari dhaniya – 1 bunch
fresh mint or pudina – 1/2 – 1 bunch
green chillies – 3 – 6 (per your spice tolerance/preference!)
peanuts – 1 tablespoon
freshly squeezed lemon juice – 1 – 2 lemons
salt to taste
Procedure:
1. Puree all ingredients until finely ground. Adjust salt, spice and tart to taste.
2. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Flavorful and spicy Green Chutney or Cilantro-Mint Spicy Chaat Chutney is ready to use.
Green chutney is one of two permanently stocked chutneys (the other one being sweet and tangy Imli Chutney) in my fridge. I can make bhel puri or any item in the chaat family in a heartbeat. I use it as bread spread, sandwich spread, dipping sauce, modified pesto, etc. etc. I am in love with this chutney 😀
This chutney keeps well in the fridge for up to a week. It is time to restock by then anyway 🙂 You could even freeze it. That’s what my mother does and it works really well.
To the spice of life 🙂
