This gorgeous wooden board by House of Hyacinth is my favorite for building a Vegetable Charcuterie Board at home. Its circumference is just over two feet, which means there’s so much room for piling on my favorite veggies like radicchio, baby carrots, grape tomatoes, radishes, and so much more.

Plus, its impressive width means there’s plenty of room to add a few small bowls filled with my healthy homemade dips. It also features a lip that’s ¾ of an inch high to prevent round veggies from rolling off the side!

The Specs:

  • Material: Wood (American maple)
  • Dimensions: 26″ wide x 1.25″ tall with a 3/4″ lip
  • Care: Hand-wash with warm soapy water, then dry thoroughly before storing

3. Best Veggie Tray With Lid: Farberware Build-a-Board Cutting Board

Best veggie tray: Farberware

When I’m taking a veggie board on the go, this bamboo tray with a lid that locks in place is the right tool for the job. I love that it has six compartments to keep my wet and dry ingredients separate — cut veggies like celery and carrot sticks won’t play nice with fresh slices of bread if they’re stored in the same compartment for a long journey. These compartments are also great for holding bowls for dips, and I like that the whole tray itself is relatively lightweight — even with the lid!

The Specs:

  • Material: Wood (bamboo) and plastic
  • Dimensions: 15.16″L x 11.42″W x 2.95″H
  • Care: Board is hand wash-only, the lid is dishwasher-safe

The Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to transport
  • Has 6 compartments for veggies, dips, and other accompaniments

The Cons:

  • Compartments are relatively shallow

4. Best Metal: Motith Divided Serving Tray with Lid

Most veggie trays available aren’t made of metal, but I like that this one is made of stainless steel. That makes it especially durable for traveling with a vegetable platter for a party, and it comes with a locking lid to ensure your crudite and dips don’t take a spill if the tray tips over in the car. It has five compartments for housing different vegetables and one center compartment for a dip. Best of all, it’s dishwasher-safe for easy cleanup once the party’s over!

The Specs:

  • Material: Metal and plastic
  • Dimensions: 10.2″L x 10.2″W x 2.2″H
  • Care: Dishwasher-safe

The Pros:

  • Durable
  • Lid makes it portable
  • Multiple compartments for serving

This tray is great for countless occasions, whether you’re putting together an afterschool grazing board for your little ones or getting ready to host a big group of friends. I love the plating possibilities with these compartments — fill them with veggies, dips, and other snacks then pop them back in the large bowl, or leave some or all of the individual sections out and add a mountain of veggies in the main compartment. When you’re done, the whole set can go in the dishwasher for super easy clean-up.

This may be on the smaller side as far as veggie trays go, but it’s perfect for snacking on the go.

Why You Can Trust Me

Hi! I’m Gina, the author and recipe developer behind Skinnytaste. For over a decade, I’ve been dreaming up healthy and fun ways to feed my family — and one of my current obsessions is the Vegetable Charcuterie Board! I love whipping up one of these veggie-filled alternatives to a charcuterie board whenever I’m prepping for a party, or even on any old weekday when my kids want a healthy snack.

To put together this list of the best veggie trays, first, I looked at the ones I own and love to use. I then researched other popular options and looked at the reviews to see which veggie trays I thought would be good to purchase. The main features I looked for were size, durability, and, in some cases, portability.

Everything to Know Before Buying a Veggie Tray

What to Consider Before Buying a Veggie Tray

There are two main things to consider before buying your veggie tray: how many people will you be serving and where will you be serving them?

Number of people: If you’re serving a large crowd, go for a tray that’s around two feet wide to make sure you have enough space. If your gathering is smaller, you can stick to something between 10 to 15 inches wide.

Location: If you’re preparing a veggie board and serving it at home, you won’t need to worry about a lid or about your tray being too heavy — wooden boards, marble trays, and ceramic serving platters are great options here.

If you’re transporting your veggie tray, you’ll want something that comes with a lid and is made of a lightweight material like bamboo, plastic, or melamine. You’ll also want to use a tray crafted from a non-breakable material if you’re going to be serving your veggie tray outside; it’s not safe to have glass anywhere near a swimming pool!

What Should You Put on a Veggie Tray?

The short answer: as many veggies and dips as your heart desires! Here are some of my favorite veggies to help get you started:

  • Cherry or grape tomatoes
  • Radishes (I love watermelon radishes)
  • Mini bell peppers
  • Radicchio
  • Cauliflower and broccoli crowns
  • Skinny carrots with the stems still on
  • Mini cucumbers (or thinly sliced English cucumbers)
  • Snap peas

To round out your veggie tray, add slices of baguette, crackers, nuts, and plenty of spreads and dips (more on these below!).

How Long Do Veggie Trays Last?

Vegetables for a veggie tray can be prepped ahead of time, and any leftover veggies can be stored for a few days in the fridge after you’ve served them. When you’re putting away leftovers, it’s best to separate any particularly wet veggies from things like nuts and bread — pack these up in their own containers to keep things fresh for as long as possible.

What Kind of Dip Should You Serve With a Veggie Tray?

I love adding easy homemade dips like hummus and whipped feta to my veggie tray. If you want to get a little adventurous, you could spice up a classic hummus by adding edamame like I do in my Edamame Hummus recipe, or maybe go for Chickpea and Roasted Pepper Dip. Cottage cheese is the secret ingredient in one of my favorite dips for a veggie tray: High-Protein Cottage Cheese Veggie Dip with Za’atar.

How Do You Cut Radishes for a Veggie Tray?

The way you cut a radish for your veggie tray will depend on the type of radish you’re cutting. If it’s a small red radish, you can slice these into thin rounds or leave them whole — the stems are totally edible! If you have a large watermelon radish, slice the radish in half then cut thin half-moon slices.
