Welcome to a world of mouthwatering flavors with our vegan char siu sandwich. Using Omni Foods Certified Vegan Pork-Style Strips and a homemade vegan char siu sauce, this sando brings together the perfect balance of sweet and umami notes. Topped with a tasty tangy slaw, it’s a simple yet sensational dish that will leave you craving more.
Servings: 4 – 6
INGREDIENTS
- 2 packs Omni Foods Certified Vegan Pork-Style Strips
- 1 pack of vegan hamburger buns
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 English cucumber, sliced
SAUCE
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp packed dark brown sugar
- 2 tbsp vegan mushroom oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 4 tbsp vegan hoisin sauce
- 3 tbsp shaoxing wine
- 1 tsp Chinese five spice
- 1/2 tsp white pepper
- 4 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
SLAW
- 2 cups carrots, shredded
- 2 cups green cabbage, shredded
- 2 cups red cabbage, shredded
- 1 can sweet crispy corn, drained
- 1 cup cilantro, chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 2 tsp Braggs Liquid Aminos
- 2 tbsp vegan mayo
- 2 tbsp seasoned rice vinegar
DIRECTIONS
- Add all of the sauce ingredients to a pan on medium heat and constantly stir to dissolve the sugar. Simmer until the sauce has thickened. Remove from heat.
- Add oil to a pan on medium heat and sauté OmniPork until crispy.
- Turn the heat down to low and pour sauce over the Omni pork and continue cooking till sauce is covering every piece and is slightly sticky. Set to the side.
- In a large bowl, add all of the slaw ingredients and mix well.
- Let’s build the sando. If preferred, toast the vegan buns. Layer a row of cucumbers on the bottom, then add the char siu OmniPork and top with a heaping amount of slaw. This sandwich is absolutely delicious!
