Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal (Video) – Kalyn’s Kitchen

Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal is delicious and this is unbelievably easy for a family dinner! And this is good any time of year, but I think these flavors are especially perfect for Fall!

PIN Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal!

This Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal is a perfect dinner idea for fall or winter, and this is about as easy as it gets for a dinner that’s healthy and tasty.

We loved the sweet potatoes for a pop of color and flavor, but if you’re being stricter on carbs you can use more broccoli and just a tiny bit of sweet potato; or skip the sweet potatoes completely if you’d like.

We thought this combination was so delicious when we tested the recipe, and I liked it so much that a few days later I made it again just for a quick dinner for myself (something that rarely happens in a house where there is always an abundance of leftover food from recipe testing!)

If you like the sound of these ingredients I hope you’ll try this tasty sheet pan meal! I bet it’s going to be a dinner your family will ask for over and over!

About the oven temperature for this sheet pan meal:

Thousands of people have made this recipe, and it has gotten raves from almost everyone who’s tried it. But a small number of people have reported that for them the sweet potatoes cooked too quickly at the 450F/230C. I am puzzled, because I’ve made it myself with no problems at that temperature and so many people have commented how much they like the recipe and not mentioned issues. If you’re not 100% sure your oven is calibrated correctly (or you know it cooks a bit hot) I would adjust the temperature (maybe even to 400F/204C) and simply cook it for a longer time.

What kind of sausage did we use for the sheet pan meal?

This dinner idea started with the Aidell’s Bacon, Mushroom, and Swiss Sausage that I got infatuated with after I sampled it at Costco, but any pre-cooked chicken, turkey, or pork sausage will work here. It’s pretty easy to find sausage that’s low in carbs, and this one has only one carb per sausage and it’s gluten-free as well. (And no, Aidells hasn’t paid me to promote their sausage and I doubt they’ve even heard of my blog!)

Why are Sheet Pan Meals so popular?

Sheet Pan Meals are an idea that started showing up a few years ago, and I think they’re such a perfect way to make an easy dinner. And the idea of dinner that cooks on one pan is definitely one reason these are so popular!

How to Make Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Sausage, and Broccoli Sheet Pan Meal:

(This is only a summary of the steps for the recipe; please scroll down for complete printable recipe. Or if you use the JUMP TO RECIPE link at the top of the page, it will take you directly to the complete recipe.)

  1. Preheat oven to 450F/230C. However, a small group of people have reported the sweet potatoes cooked too quickly at that temperature. If you’re not 100% sure your oven is calibrated correctly (or you know it cooks a bit hot) I would adjust the temperature (maybe even to 400F/204C) and simply cook it for a longer time.
  2. Preheat oven and spray sheet pan with non-stick spray.
  3. Cut up two medium sweet potatoes into cubes that aren’t too small.
  4. Whisk together olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  5. Toss sweet potatoes with half that mixture.
  6. Spread sweet potatoes out on a sheet pan and start to roast.
  7. Slice sausage into slices about 3/4 inch thick.
  8. When sweet potatoes have roasted 15 minutes, add sausage pieces to the sheet pan and roast 10 minutes more.
  9. Cut up broccoli into same-size pieces (about the size of the other ingredients.)
  10. Toss broccoli with the rest of the oil-balsamic mixture.
  11. Remove sheet pan from the oven and turn sausage pieces over. Then tuck broccoli pieces between sausage and sweet potatoes.
  12. Cook 15 minutes more, or until broccoli is done to your liking and sausages and sweet potatoes are nicely browned.
  13. Season with a little salt and fresh-ground black pepper and serve hot.
  14. This will keep in the fridge for a day or two and reheats surprisingly well.

I know sweet potatoes aren’t low in carbs, but I have to have them occasionally in the winter. Check out Favorite Healthy Sweet Potato Recipes to see more of my favorite dishes that use sweet potatoes!

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into medium-sized cubes
  • 3 T olive oil
  • 1 T balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • fresh ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 pkg. (4 or 5 links) pre-cooked chicken, turkey, or pork sausage (about 14-16 oz. sausage)
  • 1 lb. broccoli, trimmed and cut apart to make about 3/4 pound broccoli pieces
  • salt and additional fresh-ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450F/230C and spray sheet pan with non-stick spray. However, if you’re not 100% sure your oven is calibrated correctly (or you know it cooks a bit hot) I would adjust the temperature (maybe even to 400F/204C) and simply cook it for a longer time.
  2. Cut up two medium sweet potatoes into cubes that aren’t too small. (I made cubes that were about one inch across.)
  3. Whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  4. Put sweet potato cubes into a bowl and toss with half the oil-balsamic mixture.
  5. Spread sweet potatoes out on a sheet pan, put pan in the oven, and start to roast for 15 minutes.
  6. Slice sausage into slices about 3/4 inch thick. (We trimmed off the ends so the sausage would have a flat end on both sides.)
  7. When sweet potatoes have roasted 15 minutes, add sausage pieces to the sheet pan and roast 10 minutes more.
  8. Cut up broccoli into same-size pieces (about the size of the other ingredients.)
  9. Put broccoli into the bowl and toss broccoli with the rest of the oil-balsamic mixture.
  10. Remove sheet pan from the oven and turn sausage pieces over. Then spread sausage and sweet potatoes apart and tuck broccoli pieces between them.
  11. Put sheet pan back in the oven and cook 15 minutes more, or until broccoli is done to your liking and sausages and sweet potatoes are nicely browned.
  12. Season with a little salt and fresh-ground black pepper and serve hot.
