Samoa Cookie Protein Shake – Eating Bird Food


Inspired by a Girl Scout cookie favorite, this Samoa cookie protein shake is loaded with caramel, chocolate and coconut flavors while packing in over 30 grams of protein!

Lately, I’ve been on a mission to recreate some of my favorite childhood sweets in smoothie form. First, it was this butterfinger smoothie then this snickers smoothie and today I’m sharing this Samoa cookie protein shake, which was inspired by one of my all-time favorite Girl Scout cookies — Samoas.

Imagine all the goodness of a Samoa cookie — caramel, chocolate and coconut — blended into a protein-packed shake? It’s my latest obsession and I have a feeling it’s about to be yours too. Who knew hitting your protein goals could taste this indulgent?!

Ingredients measured out to make Samoa Protein Shake: chocolate protein powder, lite canned coconut milk, salted caramel protein powder, frozen banana, unsweetened toasted coconut, ice, almond butter and vanilla.

Ingredients Needed

  • lite canned coconut milk – for the liquid base we’re using coconut milk, which adds creaminess! I went with lite coconut milk to keep the fat and calories lower, but feel free to use regular coconut milk if that’s what you have on hand. To also keep things lighter, you can use half coconut milk and half unsweetened almond milk.
  • chocolate protein powder – adds a ton of chocolate flavor and is the main source of protein! 
  • salted caramel protein powder – I know you might not have this on hand, but I definitely recommend picking some up! The salted caramel protein powder adds that distinctive Samoa cookie caramel flavor. I used the new Nuzest protein powder salted caramel flavor, which I’ve been loving lately!   • frozen banana – for some natural sweetness and a smooth, thick texture.
  • unsweetened toasted shredded coconut – for that authentic Samoa cookie crunch and flavor. If you don’t have toasted coconut on hand, you can easily and quickly make toasted coconut at home!
  • almond butter – for some nuttiness, healthy fats and added protein. Look for a natural almond butter that doesn’t have any added ingredients. The ingredient list should just read almonds and salt (or just almonds)! I wouldn’t recommend swapping this with peanut butter as the flavor will be too overpowering. Cashew butter would be a good alternative.
  • vanilla extract – just a dash!
  • ice cubes – helps make this smoothie thicker… and colder!

How to Make

Step 1: Add your milk, both protein powders, banana, shredded coconut, almond butter, vanilla and ice cubes to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth. Add more milk or ice if needed for desired consistency.

Step 2: Pour into a glass and top with extra coconut and a drizzle of melted chocolate, if desired. Enjoy

Brittany’s Tip!

If you don’t have salted caramel protein powder or can’t find any, you can add 1 medjool date to this smoothie to get that caramel flavor. Medjool dates will just add a lot of sweetness, so you might want to only use 1/4 frozen banana.

Topping Ideas

The best part about this Samoa cookie protein shake is the toppings! This is where you can have fun and turn it into more of a decadent treat. Here are some toppings ideas:

  • Whipped coconut cream – Add a dollop of whipped coconut cream on top for a creamy finish.
  • Toasted coconut flakes – Sprinkle more toasted coconut flakes for added texture and an intensified coconut flavor.
  • Mini chocolate chips – Scatter a few mini chocolate chips over your shake for a chocolatey crunch.
  • Caramel drizzle – A light drizzle of this date caramel sauce would be delicious and really enhance the caramel flavors.
  • Chocolate drizzle – Melt some chocolate in the microwave or use a chocolate syrup to drizzle on top for more chocolate flavor.
  • Cocoa powder – A light dusting of cocoa powder on top can intensify the chocolate flavor and make for a beautiful presentation.
