The Diane von Furstenberg x Target Collection launches tomorrow, March 23rd at 3 am Eastern time. Yes, 3AM! I’ve been an avid shopper of these Target designer collaborations since 2015 (the Lilly Pulitzer drop), and want to share some tips for successfully shopping the drops. The items go QUICKLY, and having a plan is key to securing specific pieces.

As a plus size person, I usually approach these designer drops with a lot of enthusiasm and strategizing because it’s often the only time I can access these brands in my size. For example, Diane von Furstenberg goes to a size 18 in her regular collection. She had a brief collaboration with plus size luxury brand 11Honore that went to a size 24, but that seems to be long gone. As a size 28, this DVF x Target drop will be the first time that I can access any DVF styles. While I’m grateful for this opportunity, it’s still a watered-down experience with very limited availability and less luxurious fabric options. Still, I’m planning on shopping this collection with the same approach as I normally do. I love prints and bright colors, so DVF is right in my wheelhouse.

This collection will consist of 200 items including clothes, accessories, home goods, and furniture. There is limited availability for these items, and the most in-demand products will likely sell out within hours. The furniture is made to order, so these items may last a little longer.

Tips for Shopping the DVF x Target Collection

• Browse the collection in advance and pre-save items: On the Target app or Target.com, the collection pages will be up in advance of the launch date. Here is the link for tomorrow’s collection “Heart” each item that you want to shop, and when it’s launch time, skip all the scrolling and shop straight from your Target Favorites page.

• Shop right when the collection drops: Yes, this means if you’re in Eastern time like myself, you will need to get up realllllly early, but things truly do go so fast that it’s the safest bet to securing what you want. If you want to shop in person, get to the store when it opens.
• Look at shipping or pick up in-store options: Target.com offers shipping of items, but you can also shop items for same-day, in-store pickup. If you want that instant gratification, in-store pickup means no browsing through racks and being able to enjoy the items right away. This is also helpful when a size is out of stock online, but may be at a store near you.
• Size out of stock? Use the “Notify” feature. I have scored so many out-of-stock pieces by using the “Notify when back in stock” feature on the Target website or App. Select your size, and then click the notify button. When the item comes back in stock (for these collaborations, it’s usually returned items), they will send you a push notification and email.
• If you purchase, be prepared for return timelines: The turnaround time for returns is 14 days for non-card holders, so make sure that you’re prepared to return items quickly if they don’t work for you.

My DVF x Target Plus Size Favorites

There are a lot of beautiful pieces in this collection, including the staple wrap dresses that DVF is known for. In addition to these favorite clothing items below, there is also a collection of colorful housewares that I know will be popular. Make sure to pre-browse the entire collection to plan your shopping and to prevent from overspending (a mistake I make every year.)
